๐ค Who's Behind SocialDancer?
Hi! I'm David Freiholtz and I love dancing and privacy.
I built SocialDancer because I wanted a better way to find dance events. I live in Sweden, and I held the position as GDPR responsible person for multiple years at a big hosting company in Sweden. I personally dislike the attention economy and the surveillance economy, so I promise to treat your data like I'd want mine treated - with respect and care.
Legal Entity: SocialDancer is operated by David Freiholtz, a private person (not a company) based in Sweden.
Data Controller: David Freiholtz is the data controller responsible for your personal data processed through this website.
Jurisdiction: Swedish and EU data protection law applies to this service.
Business Structure: Personal project operated by an individual, not a registered company
๐ก๏ธ Your Privacy Comes First
I actually care about your privacy - it's not just legal talk.
- โ No data selling - Your data will NEVER be sold
- โ Minimal collection - I only collect what's needed
- โ You're in control - Delete your account anytime
- โ Transparent - I'll tell you exactly what I do with your data
The purpose and legal basis depend on the feature you use:
- Consent: For optional analytics and newsletter subscriptions
- Contract: To provide the services you've signed up for
- Legitimate Interest: For security, fraud prevention, and service improvement
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to ensure a level of security appropriate to the risk, including encryption, access controls, and regular security assessments.
๐ What Information Do We Collect?
Just the basics to make the site work for you:
- ๐ง Email address - So you can log in
- ๐ค Username - How you want to be known
- ๐ Country - Used to suggest relevant events; you can choose other countries or all countries.
- ๐ Dance preferences - Events you like or attend
- ๐ Search queries - Used to answer your search; optional analytics requires your consent.
- ๐ช Essential cookies - To keep you logged in
Personal Data Categories:
- Account Information: Email address, username, password hash, optional profile information
- Usage Data: Consented analytics records page and event interactions with a daily changing identifier. It does not store your IP address, account identity or browser user agent. Security and error logs are separate.
- Preference Data: Dance style preferences, favorite events, bookmarked content
- To reuse your latest AI search across filters and views, we store its query and matching event identifiers in your database-backed session. Results are usable for 24 hours and a new AI search replaces them. Sessions have a 30-day lifetime; the 24-hour limit is not a promise that stored session data is physically erased then.
- Communication Data: Messages you send us, feedback, support requests
- Third-Party Data: If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from your Google account
Cookies: Essential cookies keep you signed in and remember settings. Optional analytics is off until you accept it. External sign-in, maps and payment services have their own privacy terms.
Your appearance choice, map, muted style combinations and selected event types are remembered in this browser. You can remove these preferences by clearing this site's browser data.
๐ฏ How We Use Your Information
Everything we do with your data is to help you find dances:
- ๐ Keep you logged in - So you don't have to sign in every time
- ๐ Show relevant events - Dance events in your area
- ๐ค AI-powered search - AI answers complement ordinary event filters and keyword search.
- ๐ง Important updates only - Account security, major changes
- ๐ ๏ธ Improve the service - Fix bugs, add requested features, prevent misuse
Purposes of Processing:
- Service Provision: To create and manage your account, provide access to dance event information, enable event bookmarking and preferences
- Communication: To send service-related emails (password resets, security alerts, major updates)
- Improvement: To analyze usage patterns, identify bugs, develop new features based on user needs
- Misuse Prevention: To detect and prevent spam, abuse, and harmful queries in our AI search system
- Legal Compliance: To comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements
- Security: To detect and prevent fraud, unauthorized access, and other harmful activity
Retention: Deleting your account deactivates it and signs you out now. After 30 days, the next daily cleanup erases your personal data from the live service.
Contact us before the 30-day grace period ends to cancel deletion and reactivate your account. Signing in alone does not cancel deletion.
Shared public events, venues and organizers remain without your account attribution. A minimal deletion record keeps your former public account identifier and request and erasure times so deletion can be reapplied after a backup restore. An avatar file reference is retained only until file cleanup succeeds.
Backup copies and external providers' records have separate retention and are not erased by this live-service cleanup. Detailed optional analytics is retained for the current day and 30 completed days, then reduced to anonymous daily totals kept for five years.
